Taken on Friday with my d300 probably not the best shot in the world because of the high iso and the extraordinary conditions I do have a few more.

Phillip.

D300 sigma 800 + 1.4tc Yes 1/250@f8 plus one-stop for the TC iso800 the autofocus tracked it easily it's just down to the operator that it isn't critically sharp.

striking image, like you say the head isn't tack sharp but the pose and light are lovely

is this cropped?

Congratulations on getting the opportunity to capture this, the most elusive of birds, in flight.

A species that has, as yet, eluded me!
Well done.

Considering the conditions this is a very good effort of an elusive bird. I will be more then pleased to get a chance of a shot like this, well done. :toast:

I don't think I have ever seen a picture of one of these flying. looks like you have made the best possible use of a very rare opportunity. Great shot.
