Jumbo Sunrise
Taken this last summer on the backside of Mt Jumbo in Missoula, MT at 5:00 AM. I was having trouble finding a good place to compose the image with the little time I had. There are few places on this trail after this point (until the top) that I would have full view of the sunrise. Unfortunately I would not have made it to the top in time so this spot had to do. I like the sky, but I know the FG may just make this a ho hum image yet I am curious what everyone else thinks.

I'd agree that it's not your best I've seen. I'm having trouble finding a real focus here. The rolling hill speckled with trees here and there is great, but given the lighting, there aren't enough tonal ranges here to grab my eye. The distant moutain doesn't have much detail currently either. A little selective levels work to brighten and bring out contrast in the trees and far hills would really help, but I'm not sure if this one is worth trying to make a keeper. I find the immediate foreground grass pretty distracting. You sure caught a beautiful sunrise here though. I haven't been fortunate to make it out to Montana yet......some day soon.

I hate when the color happens just a bit to far to reach in time... Tough luck Adrian but I bet you win more than you lose. For me the grasses work in that particular corner if they weren't quite so soft... almost looks like some motion happening there? Did the nice color change too fast to get off any other shots or comps or was this like they alwyas happen for me... short but sweet! Cheers!

Yep, this is shaping to one of those settings that I did not or could not maximize the pontential. I wish I could have made something better for the FG but I really had little to work with there. Here is a different one taken about 7 mintues later, but as with the other one I don't care for the FG. Oh well!

Adrian: Yup, the sky is what holds my interest in both shots. The FG in the 1st post feels esp. rushed w/ the oof grass. But I like the soaring feeling of the sky in the 2nd shot better.

The vertical does it a lot better for me!
