Waterfalls are running again!
We finally got some good rain in Arkansas and the waterfalls are running! Those of you that were at the spring gathering may recognize this place. It is from the side drainage of Smith Creek that we explored after lunch on Saturday. Tim Ernst told us about this neat place and I knew I had to get back when there was water. Conditions were somewhat difficult yesterday due to the melting ice from the trees. It was like a minor rainstorm and protecting the camera gear was high priority.

As a side note the river gauge at Boxley was approaching 4 feet at the time I took this shot.

Wow, I can't believe you posted a shot from this area today! I just finished looking at Tim's new Waterfall picture book again and after seeing some of his shots from the Smith Creek area I was thinking about when we hiked down to this area. Deja Vu all over again!

Thanks for posting this Tom .... just about time to start planning the next Spring gathering don't you think?

Tom, It's great to see others getting winter waterfalls. I wish I'd made it to Smith Creek before I left Arkansas. Might have to be a spring getaway sometime. I like how this waterfall enters the frame, especially how the trickles on the top left and right frame the main falls in the middle. I might like to see a little more on the lower right side. It is certainly a nice isolation, as I seem to find necessary in the winter. Great job.

I actually posted the detail and meant to post the wider view. It appears my annual membership ran out yesterday and I just renewed this morning so if the follow up shot does not show up here, I will post a few more shots from yesterday on another sight and link to it.

Wayne, a repeat of last year's spring gathering would be nice.

Well done! On both views Tom.

I like the wider view more.

Tom, good to see some Arkansas waterfall posts. I love your wider view, though I'm distracted by the colorful leaves at the very top, to the right of the waterfall. You might try making them darker. I really like the amount of realism you've captured in the wet, moss- and lichen-covered boulders.

Glad you have been getting out for a few shots, Tom. I've had to tend to the business side of photography for the past week or so, and haven't had much time to get out, or comment on the forum.

I like your second post a little better than the first. Very nice. How far down the drainage did you go?

Bill, I only vetured about 300 yards from the road, about the same distance we went back in the spring. It would be a nice day trip to start here and hike down the drainage to Smith Creek and then back up the road. We need to do that this winter when the water is right.

Here is a link to the waterfall above the one in this post and a couple of Elk shots I got yesterday. My renewal has not taken effect yet so I can not post here.

Tom it's nice you got out on Saturday. You got some nice images. I like both of them. Give me a call next time you get out after Christmas.
