Certainly a nice comp and PoV
It's definately looking very over processed in contrast at least - if you re-open your original file and use the Shadow/highlight adjust and perhaps a levels adjust layer to set your black and white points I think you'll have a very pleasing image Jack

Hi Jack I like this warm lighting picture, considering we hardly see the sun up here in Scotland.

Hi Andy
just had a quick go at what you said. is this any better?

I really like the repost much better! Great photo. I like the low angle and the OOF back and fore ground.
Nice Jack, but I think the PP is still a touch over the top... I assume this is shot RAW? I would initially try for slightly lower contrast, this will give you more 'headroom' in PS... my workflow is to get the image looking as good as I can during the conversion, PP in photoshop is destructive...
Is this a large crop? The bg looks a tad noisy and could do with a bit of reduction.
All the best & speak soon

Hi Phil
I can't explain all the noise, it's not cropped at all. Yes it was shot in RAW. I had a go at processing it again like you said. How's this?
I hope you don't mind I have done a quick rework of your final repost, I dislike using Shadow/highlight, prefering to get things right from the RAW but here I used a slight amount of shadows and highlights to recover detail in the darker plumage and to bring out just a little more in the lighter plumage, I then applied a bit of NR to the bg and OOF foreground (prob a little too much, but done rather quickly) also quickly removed the couple of highlights in the bg...
Hope this helps....
If you wish I can remove the rework...
All the best
Phil

I really liked this picture when you first put it on Jack, but I have to say that Phil's take on it stands out. Makes me wonder what I could have done with some of mine now if only I knew what I was doing!
