I usually only do my images in color. But kind of liked how this looked in BW.

Your Thoughts?

I like the textures and patterns in this, Gale - a very nice study in leaf detail.

This is really nice! Gorgeous textures and beautiful deep tones. Well composed. Great shot. I haven't seen the color, but the BW is beautiful. I may suggest that you crop the right side. The bright leaf keeps drawing my eye over, but I really think it works either way.

Nice job, Gale.

I think the B&W treatment works well. I like the inclusion of the light leaf, but feel it could be darkened a little to bring it more in line with the rest of the pic. Cropping like Dominic mentioned would also work.

Gale I like the B&W conversion, nice textures and patterns. I also agree with Dominic and Rob regarding the lighter leaf on the right. Nice job with this one and thanks for sharing!

Nice leaf study Gale, I would get rid of the light leaf on the right also. The textures and viens are really nice.

Top-notch image, Gale. I'm curious; what method did you use to convert this to BW?
Posted by Gale Rainwater on December 18, 2007 at 9:29 AM
I had almost cropped or taken some of the light colors out of the leaf on the right, but had already saved for web and didn't take the time.
John all I did on this one was simlpy taken the saturation out. I know of a better method just didn't take the time on this one.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Gale, fine detail and tones in this intimate study. Mike Moats makes a living off stuff like this. Very nice shot and nice departure from your usual wonderfully saturated landscapes!

Very nice work, Gale. The detail and tonal contrast really draws me into this. But I'd have to agree with the others about the brightness on the right side.

awesome... this is one of those images that you can almost feel the texture of the subject right through the image, it's a very strong mix of B&W

Beautifu tones and textures. Maybe the high-key leaf on the right could be burned to bring it into line. Would you care to share how you made the B&W conversion?
