Paper Feed Problem R2400

I'm trying to print 7 x 10 scored cards with my Epson R2400. The paper is Moab Entrada. These cards have consistently been a problem with this printer. Typically it takes a couple of tries to get the printer to grab the paper correctly and print. The other times it just sends the paper through without printing. Tonight the printer has decided to refuse to print at all. It just shoots the paper through.

Anyone else had this problem -- and better yet, found a solution?

Thanks for your help.

I've had similar frustrations Chuck. Is it giving you any kind of error message or anything, especially citing a feed source error or something like that?

You might try using the Single Sheet Feed attachment. That seems to give me better results. Read the set-up procedures in your manual as you have to change your source to Manual-Roll.

Hello Chuck,

I have had similar problems with my R1800 and Hahnemuehle Photo Rag Bright White (both A3+ and A4). There is a rubber "wheel" on the right side if you stand in front of the printer pulling in the paper. Fibers from papers of this type (Moab Entrad is very similar to Hahnemuehle Photo Rag) stick to this rubber wheel. As a result the wheel becomes slippery. Cleaning the wheel with a little alcohol on a lint free (micro fiber) cloth did the trick for me. After that between 5 and 10 papers are pulled in without problems. I do not know if this will in time damage the wheel. Up to you to decide if you want to take the risk.

I also have a Epson 1800 printer and have feeding issues especially with cotton papers, and sometimes matte. This past week I was printing Christmas cards and I got so frustrated that I was ready to through the printer out the window. It got so bad that it wouldn't even grab a regular sheet of printing paper through or when it did it would just shoot it out the other end.

I tried cleaning the rubber wheel with alcohol same as Ronno is suggesting and that worked but I've found a method that seems to work much better and is simpler.

Included in my pack of Epson Matte paper was a cleaning sheet for an Epson 5000 printer. I looked at it and saw that it was simply a piece of paper with a piece of double sided tape. That cleaning sheet wouldn't do anything in the R1800 because the rubber wheel is in a different place than the tape is so I made my own cleaning sheet with a scrap piece of matte paper (so it has some stiffness) and a couple pieces of double sided tape. I ran the sheet through the printer 2-3 times and it cleaned the rubber wheel very nicely. I printed a lot on the weekend - roughly 100 8.5x11" prints (basically every image I have on my website) and I used the cleaning sheet every 20 or so prints. After a while the double sided tape lost it's tackiness (as one would expect since it's cleaning the wheel) so I had to make a new cleaning sheet but over all I was very satisfied with the performance.

Note, the original Epson paper warns that it shouldn't be used any printer other than the 5000 but I don't see what damage it can do. Obviously the paper they provide has the tape in the wrong place for other printers so maybe that's the reason for their warning?

Thanks for the insights folks. Tom, I appreciate your level of frustration. After trying to print cards for several hours last night I had to quit for my own sanity. It's a good thing my axe was out in the shed.

Happy holidays to all...
