I'm coming to the lowlands for christmas, and new year. Does anyone know any good spots near Chester worth visiting? I've looked at a few places but always come up blank.

Crikey Paul - sluming it in our neck of the woods ehh?

At Chester you have all the Wirral/Dee estuary to go at - check out http://www.deeestuary.co.uk/

Then there's always Delamere and Marbury :wavey:

Chester cemetary used to be THE spot for hawfinch. Haven't been for years but never failed when I went there.

Formby is not far up the coast towards Southport. Good for Red Squirrels and a tame Fox.

Hi, Jeremy, i know the not so local places, i can visit MM, but i'm talking places where i can nip put for an hour or two, and be in the thick of it (so to speak).

John, Chester Cemetary? The one with the war graves? Hmm thats VERY close to where i'll be (liverpool road) I'll have to read up on it.

Andy, yes i knew about the estuary, but i'm not sure how good it is for photography?

Inner Marsh farm is only 20 minutes from the city centre, not brilliant for photographing but good chance of Marsh Harrier, Water Rail etc

You need to stay away from the hides and RSPB - open foreshore at high tide, if you fancy a jaunt up the welsh side Point of Ayr is very good
