I visited Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR last evening and was fortunate to photograph a few bald eagles. There are now 6 wintering eagles at the refuge ~ the number depends on the severity of winter up north. Peak eagle count is usually around late Jan-early Feb. It seems they are more tolerant of my tan 4Runner than my previous silver Tacoma........maybe I'm nuts: but I didn't bump any birds. I used a 600mm & 1.4X teleconverter on a Kirk window mount.
The refuge is scheduled to open Feb. 8 and I am discussing some ideas with USFWS to enhance the visitor experience. We will be looking to use the under-utilized and very nice blind which was built for photography.
I'll continue to add updates as we get closer to the re-opening.

Thanks, Dave. I definitely want to get down there. Nice shots too. And finally, I really am enjoying your most recent book on the Prairie. Great photos and text.

Dave,
I seen you driving around in that tan 4-runner with a ladder and couple stuffed eagles in the back. You think you can pull one over on us!
They really are a nice set of eagle shots. The symmetry in the pair is very cool.

Very cool. I'd like to get some shots of the eagles in Eleven Mile canyon. This is motivating.
