Been quite busy, and haven’t posted any images in a while.
Here is one from a trip to Hovenweep not too long ago. I forgot to take my B&W film, so I shot this on Provia 100F and converted and toned it a little in Photoshop.
Technical Stuff: Provia 100F 4x5, Nikkor 90mm, and a bit of wind!

Very nice Rene. Good BW conversion.

Nicely done, René. Hovenweep is one of my favorite places. Thanks for sharing.

Really exceptional! Nice light control and the B+W conversion is great. Makes we want to go there (again)!

I like your composition. Great foreground.
Nice having some water around for a reflection!
Not a frequent opportunity in that location.

Really nice conversion and a beautiful image, Rene. My only nit is the cutoff reflection but it's really not a big deal.

Everyone – thank you for the kind feedback. I find these ancient Puebloan ruins and artifacts very fascinating. They are some of my absolute favorite subjects to photograph – especially in B&W.
Brent – I completely agree. I wish I could have gotten the top of the ruin the reflection. The puddle was quite small, and I tried to get the reflection in the long part of the puddle, but the composition wasn’t as strong.
Bill – Actually we were hoping for snow! The day we dove down, there was a LOT of snow on the ground starting just south of Moab. The snow continued all the way until a few miles before the Hoevenweep turnoff (of course ). …but I am very happy with the simple reflection.
This is really excellent, Rene! Great use of the reflection in the composition and I like the B&W presentation.

Beautiful work Rene. A perfect comp for bw and a nice job on the conversion. Just one tiny nit - the tree near the left edge of the frame tugs at my eye. I find myself going back and forth between that and the tower and the reflection diminishes in importance. Maybe burning the top right corner of sky would help so the tree has less contrast against the light background.
But I do like how the tree balances with the dark area of background on the right edge of the frame... like I said, this really is just nitpicking. Great image - will make a nice print!

Beautiful, Rene! Great comp and detail. Would love to see this printed.

Guy / Scott – thanks for the compliments
Nat – Good idea. I will try to even out the contrast a bit. I agree, the tree is a bit of a distraction, especially with its very straight edges on the right side. Thanks for the feedback.

Rene,
Fantastic shot...well executed. I have shots from the same place that did not turn out near as good. When i was there, there was a chain up in front of the structure.

Excellent comp and bw treatment. Evidently the wind wasn't too strong as not only were there no ripples in the pool of water, but there doesn't appear to be any movement in the tower either

Beautiful shot Rene. The puddle leads you nicely into the meat of the image. I don't mind the lack of a complete reflection at all. The b&w presentation is a good choice for this image.
