I always like to check for new photography books when I go to the bookstore. This time I found a real gem: National Audubon Society Guide to Landscape Photography by Tim Fitzharris.
I don't generally browse the how-to books, but the cover had me curious and as soon as I opened it, the quality of the images and printing really grabbed me; this is one beautifully-illustrated book!
Fitzharris covers not only the basics but even topics like cold weather clothing, composition ideas, etc. all in a pretty compact package.

I also recently purchased this book. At first I did it on art alone but once I started reading it turned out to be quite informative. Glad I wasn't the only one!

Another of his books, National Audubon Society Guide to Nature Photography, revised edition (2003) was a winner too. It was split down the middle, half on wildlife, half on landscapes, accentuating the differences between the two and giving lots of concrete ways to improve both. While he used to be known mostly for wildlife, he's really stepped out on landscapes--seemed like he had half the images in the 2008 Inner Reflections calendar, for example.

I purchased his National Audubon Society Guide to Nature Photography, revised edition a few years back. As a true novice at the time, I thought Tim did a wonderful job in explaining his approach and the technical considerations while illustrating his techniques with wonderful imagery. I even contacted him via email and he was very responsive. I would certainly recommend his books to anyone who enjoys and/or pursues nature photography.

Richard and I crossed paths with Tim during a trip I took this Fall in the Smokies with Richard guiding.
We had just been talking about Tim's books, turned a corner, and there he was. Richard posted this picture that I took of Richard and Tim in the SENP forum, but I can't find it now.
As you can tell from Tim's body language, he's intently focused on conversing with Richard and me.

I completely agree that Tim's books are wonderful, and the print quality of the images rank amongst some of the best that I've viewed in a photography book.
Well worth the purchase for anyone who is looking for a photography book to add to their collection.
