Winter officially begins tonight at 11:08pm (MST), and we'll be in the midst of a pretty good winter storm as it happens. The storm is supposed to move out pretty quickly tomorrow morning, making the first sunrise of winter '07 look pretty promising, photo-wise. Plus, it's a Saturday. Add all this up and what you have is the potential for lots of RMNPers to get out and shoot some possibly monumental conditions. So, my fellow photogs, dust off the long johns, find both gloves, charge up the camera batteries and get out there and SHOOT! If you get anything, post it in this thread, yo.

Hey Todd,

If you're gonna be up on Rampart Range, give me a shout. I'll be up there in the jeep.

Hey Mel,

I'll likely be up there somewhere for sunrise, not sure where though. I'll look for you. Probably won't see too many other people!

Your government wants you to go shopping and save the US economy. It is apparently more patriotic than spending time in nature.

Man that front is taking its time…it's supposed to be snowing right now here in Evergreen, but so far we have only had blues skies!

I might head up Squaw Pass in the AM to see if I can catch a nice wintery sunrise.

...and save the US economy...

Save it from what? 4.9% growth in the last quarter, and low inflation? Full employment? Recession, my arse!

Take heart, Rene, it is snowing like the (Charles) Dickens in the San Juans and over Monarch Pass right now. Aspen's getting it, Gunnison is a winter wonderland and CB is getting buried.

..Gunnison is a winter wonderland..

Oh yeah - check out the webcam! How about a wintery sunrise from BCG ???

Isn't the shopping mall the natural habitat of most Americans?!?

Mel, Todd - Derek and I are going to meet up at 6:00 a.m. at the Visitor center Parking lot and then head on up Rampart as well so keep your eyes peeled for a red 05 Pathfinder. Fresh snow and clearing skies; sounds like my kind of morning!

I'm working til 8AM, but will take my camera with me in the hope there will be some clouds on the eastern horizon to block any harsh sunlight on my drive home. I'll be in a blue Subaru WRX.

Thank goodness, Winter arrives tonight.

That means the days will start getting longer.

Winter Solstice is one of the most important holidays of the year at least IMO.

Happy early Spring everyone.

I was too busy partying last night, I didn't get up until 10 this morning. I'll tell you that storm didn't last very long. I went out to get evening shots while it was snowing and it stopped before I had a chance to go out, so I didn't quite get what I wanted

Bummer - missed the sunrise. Woke up not too long after and most of the snow was already off the trees - it's windy and frigid up here!

Also not to forget - full moon is Christmas Eve, so keep the cameras rollin'!

Yeah, given the quick-hit nature of this storm, I decided to sleep in all the way to 6:30 this morning. But I thought I'd share what dream was pasted onto the insides of my eyelids with y'all. Not a bad way to miss sunrise.

Well, Jesse, Mel, Derek, John, and I managed to drag ourselves out of bed. We met on Rampart range road going opposite directions. Not too many exposures were made though. The morning light was beautiful, but there wasn't as much snow as we hoped and the sky was uber-clear. We all headed to N Cheyenne Canyon to look for ice/cascades but the light was still flat there and the stream was mostly iced over.
Still the company was good and we can claim that we were out before sunrise with a clear concience!

Hope someone got something to share!
