PBS will be showing the Nature documentary, "Christmas in Yellowstone", at 7 PM this Sunday, Dec. 23.
For those that didn't catch it last year, it is a program worth watching.
It was filmed while we were spending Christmas at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge in 2005. We saw some film crews but didn't know they were doing such a big production. Then one of our friends called and told us they just watched my wife caroling on a TV nature program! Needless to say, we now have our very own DVD. It's great having a professional crew filming your vacation.

Here's a shot from the hatch of a snowcoach on the way to Hayden valley.

Thanks, everyone. The coyote was very cooperative in showing off his snack for a few seconds. I was able to get the whole sequence while hand holding a 400mm. For me, that alone was worth the trip!
However, I do need to add a footnote for those planning a winter drive to Yellowstone.
Those Wyoming highways are treacherous. We hit blizzard conditions in BOTH directions!
Large tractor trailers were spun out and cars littered the interstate all the way from Laramie to Rock Springs.
The story in today's paper about the Parr family brings back memories of that stressful drive.
So, my recommendation if you are driving, allow some buffer days before and after the trip so that you can pull over into a motel and wait out the storm. If you leave at the last minute, you just don't have any safety margins. I think I will fly next time.
