Went out today with the intent to capture some images of the D&SNG train in the falling snow. It was snowing great guns when I left home, but alas the snow gods turned fickle and there was not much happening along the train route. So given the middling conditions I decided to get artistic in photoshop and use a zoom blur (among other things) to spice things up. I'm interested in getting people's opinion on this. Does it work or should I stick to a standard presentation (in which case I'll probably just junk it and try another day)?

It's fun, Guy. I think you should keep it.
This storm certainly did leave in a hurry, didn't it? Right after I looked at Durango webcams that showed snow, I posted my "winter" topic, then looked again and it was sunny!

Actually, it was pretty much a dud here in the San Juans. It looks like northern New Mexico might bear the brunt of this storm. But that's ok as it sounds like a series of smaller snow events will keep things fresh through next week.

I really like this. Since you're experimenting, try some BW or toning too.

Thanks Paul, I actually did experiment with that as well. Here's my effort...

Guy, What you did looks very cool. I do like the color version better, though. I vote to keep it. I would really like to see the original to.

Guy, The blur adds a nice dimension. I'd try the motion blur vice the zoom blur so the blur to the right of the engine goes in the direction of the train rather than away from it. Still, it's fun!

I like the color version. The blur greatly improves the image.

Tough call, but I'm leaning toward the BW version. It has more of a classic, old time feel. I think this is a great shot, Guy. Maybe you could market this to the railroad company.

Very nice. I really like the BW version.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Paul - I may have to approach the D&SNG with this. It can't hurt to try. I think I'll play around with Kalin's suggestion with the motion blur first though.
Laurie - Here's the original...

Cool shot, Guy! The zoom/motion blur adds a nice touch of movement and makes the image a bit more dynamic - IMHO. The only item that is a bit distraction for me is the repeated lines just right of the engine. You could also try the zoom blur in camera while shooting (using a zoom lens).
