“Autumn Gold”
Eastern Sierra Nevada, California
Fall in the Eastern Sierra is a special time. The incredible scenery, comprising of vast valleys, pristine lakes and tall snow-covered mountains, suddenly comes alive. Rather than stand back and photograph the grand vistas with sweeping belts of color, I often find myself spending time deep inside the forests. It is magical in there, full of peace and quiet. The typical clutter and chaos associated with Sierra forests makes photography hard in my opinion, so I rarely pull out the camera. However, there are those special occasions when light, color and form have a way of coming together and you know that a photograph has to be made.
Pentax 67ii, 105mm, Fuji Velvia 50
I realize that the highlights are getting somewhat hurt in this presentation (must be the compression) but I hope its not too much of a distraction. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this photograph.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you all.

Anil,
This is gorgeous. Aside from the beautiful light and colors, what really makes this image work for me is the square crop. More and more I'm really liking that format and I think I'll start experimenting with the 4x5 - with thoughts during capture about a square crop.
You're so right about finding images in these complicated, often chaotic forests. I too love just wondering around in them and try not to get discourage if I don't find anything. Just enjoy those times.
Wonderful image.

This is gorgeous Anil!
Love the comp, beautiful light and colors.
This is so very nice, Anil. I too like the square format, here. These aspen forests are so nice to wander: The yellow light, the quietness are very special. This image captures that.
