I spend some time in the backcountry skiing in some deep seep snow and most of the time it was so steep the snowshoes got stuck so I think I am going to try to skinning as my brother had no problem going up the hills. Anyways the whole time I was there I never found any blue skies or sun. So the images are kinda bleak. I will return when there is better weather

I like this pic very much. No dramatic sunset, no problem. I like the lines in the foreground llc, the hill in the midground and hills and ominous low clouds in the background.
I'm not a professional, but it would be interesting to know what others think of the tree in the llc. It helps lead my eyes through the photo, but I wonder how the pic would look if it weren't there...not sure if it would be worse off or not.

Kevin, this gives me the feeling of wishing I was there. Snowshoeing sounds nice right now. Yet I can't say the image is doing much for me overall, sorry. I know how it is though, the NW skies don't always cooperate on every outing!

Yowsa dude! You sure did a lot with bleak! The bank of cloud that pinches down to a tube on the right is pretty bizarre, almost like a funnel cloud on its side. Makes you feel like something is about to happen. Nice comp; flows well.
I can relate regarding the snowshoeing. Been doing some on my side of the Cascades. Six more inches expected tonight...

An interesting shot. Maybe not a "wow" shot but surely it motivates me to slap my showshoes on and get out there.
Speaking of which we ALL need to take to heart that the avalanche risk right now is through the roof!!! Do your homework and stay safe n sane out there my friends!!!
Ohhh, I think this is a pretty powerful, emotive image of "bleak." It defines bleak! Granted it's evocative of a negative emotion, but still-- I think this is a good photo in its composition and expressiveness.

Looks like a good job with the conditions you describe. Inspiring, I too need to get out there!

There's no doubt some big skis/skins are going to move faster through open glades with tons o' snow. They suck for dense trees and mixed terrain though. It's a trade off. And a good ski package will set you back $1500, so make sure you really need it first. Conditions like this don't come too often out here with all our wind and wet snow storms. I'm heading out into the Tatoosh this week. I can't wait. Oh, and yes, avalanches are a real danger. Wait until the snow has settled a day or two after a storm, stay off of 25-degree+ slopes, don't hang around in run-outs and stay far away from wind-loaded lee slopes and wind slaps at or above treeline.

Pretty cool & dramatic image. It portrays the mood quite well I think. I myself, have a 5 day weekend coming. I'm trying to decide on a quick trip up to the Canadian Rockies somewhere, or shooting central Oregon/Cascades and following through on a blind date for New Year's eve... There's the dilema...photography or women...hmmm
