Putting a Digital Frame Around An Image In CS3

I have tried the "actions" palette in CS3 to no avail. I guess I don't understand it. I want to put a frame around my images that looks a little like a white mat with an inner green border.

How do you guys make this happen?

Thanks for your input.

I've created an action to make a frame around my digital images. Creating an action is fairly straight forward. You create a new action hit the record button and go through the steps you want and when you're done just click the stop button. When you want to play the action just click the play button.

For my action to work correctly, I first have to resize my image 575pixels on the longest side and sharpen. (I actually have an action to resize and sharpen using Marc Adamus' sharpening technique.)
My action does the following in this order:
Resize the canvas by adding 8 pixels in both directions with white.
Resize the canvas by adding 2 pixels in both directions with gray.
Resize the canvas by adding 120 pixels in both directions with white.
Resize the canvas by adding 15 pixels in both directions with black.
Create a text layer with my name on it.
Move the text layer.
Flatten the image.

I hope this helps. If you want, I could e-mail you a copy of the action for you to try out when I get home tonight.

Tom, \\Would you mind sending me a copy also. There is one in custom actions in PS3 but I wanted to do one like described above. You can email to comtsguy01@yahoo.com

Thanks for any consideration.

Ed,

Back in Aug. Ryan DesJardins from the PNW area and forum posted some actions to make IMO a very stunning frame digitally in PS. I haven't been to his site in awhile but you might check it out there as you can play around and do what you are wanting to do with it. www.ryandesjardins.com I think.

Hope this helps. :toast:

Thanks for the great replies guys. I have been at work so just got caught up on this thread.

Tom, can you email me your action? Email is vettesight@stny.rr.com

Mitch, I will check out Ryan's site after work - whenever that is? It is Friday of a holiday weekend so all the "emergencies" that occured Monday will show up to day to get it taken care of before the weekend

No problem Ed. Let me know how it works in CS3. I'm curious.
