A couple of 1DsMkIII shots from today
I just got this body last week but wasn't able to see how it handled cold temps until today. The weather was a chilly 4 degrees at 7:30am

This second shot was at sunset today, again the temperatures were dropping like a rock as the sun disappeared, frost was forming on my ballhead.

Sweet shots Don! I really like that little fox. How do you like the MkIII?

Beautifully composed and excellent color Don! Where abouts where these taken and how did you find such a good fox model? :toast:
Congrats on the new camera.

great shot of the fox, I just haven't been able to get wildlife very well yet. I love that shot from Mayflower Gulch, is that from where you got the fox from?

I really like the fox habitat shot, and you may want to remove the oof piece of grass just below the fox. The Mayflower shot is just a gorgeous Colorado winter image. Nice work!

It's like the fox is in a spotlight. Very nice!

Beautiful images no matter what the camera, but I'd sure like to see what that sucker can do, enlargement-wise. You must be absolutely thrilled to own that beast!

I'm very jealous. Nice photos. Enjoy that new camera!

Your 1D3 will produce stunning images Don especially if the subject is static. Now try it on something moving, preferably toward or away from you.

Thanks everyone!

Derek and Paul: The fox was taken in Wheatridge in Prospect Park. Usually multiple foxes can be seen there but on this morning this was the only one I saw, and although I saw him half a dozen times, this was the only time where it wasn't behind a lot of vegetation and I only got a couple of frames before he continued on his erratic rounds.

Paul: If this were a 1D3 (10mp,10fps), I would be concerned about its AF abilities as outlined on Rob Galbraith's site. But because this is the 1DsMkIII version (21mp,5fps), AF on moving subjects is not as high a priority, although from what I've seen on the net, the "s" version is performing well. I'll have multiple opportunities to experiment with moving subjects in 5 days when I fly to Ushuaia,Argentina for a 28 day voyage to the Falkland's, South Georgia, Antarctica, and finally another 5 days at Torres del Paine NP in Chile. There are lots of pelagic birds that follow the ships so in flight shots should be a fun time.

Thanks Don,

Thats great news. I don't have to go all the way to Minnesota or Yellowstone to try and capture one of these guys.

It sounds like you are preparing for the trip of a lifetime. I look forward to hearing from you when you return. I am sure you will have months of processing. But hopefully you can do some of that while on location with a laptop or something. Otherwise a 28 day trip would take quite a load of CF cards without any offload capability.
Have a great time!!! :wavey:
