I've been processing more images and updating my web site, so here's some misc. shots from my last few trips that I've yet to post anywhere...

Nice Grant! I love the tones, the reflection and the clarity. Sweet, uncomplicated image. I was commenting on the first image. You must have been posting the others at the same time. Really nice series!

I posted the wrong version of the stars shot. Here's a toned down version I think I like better...

Great stuff, Grant! That rainbow reflection shot is especially awesome.

Nice new stuff to share. Great clouds at Paradise and I love the Molas shot too. I actually prefer the warmer Arches star shot, but the second one is maybe more realistic.

Great stuff, Grant. I really like the Arches star shots and the Watkins Glen shot.

I like that rainbow reflection shot and the Watkins Glen one a lot. I also like the starfield over Arches, but the first, untamed one.
I have done a lot of shooting in Watkins Glen. Did you make it to all teh other parks around there like Filmore Glen, Letchworth, Buttermilk , New Hope and Taghanock?

Very nice shots. I was surprised to see Watkins Glen in here. I live just up the road. I hope you were able to get to some of the others in the area as well.
If anyone is ever out this way again, let me know.

Wow, Grant, you've been a busy dude this year! I especially liked the rainbow and the stars/Arches shots.

I was just in Ithaca for one night on my whirlwind trip around NY & Vermont. I visited Watkins Glen and Taughannok Falls. But I was there at sunset for Taughannok and it turns out its best at sunrise or on an overcast day. So I photoraphed this barn I stumbled upon instead. Here's some other shots from that trip: http://www.gcollier.com/New-York.html

That's a great collection! Quite a variety and all nice, but have to agree that the rainbow shot is pretty special.

All these are nice, but the rainbow reflection and Arches at night (the first version) are really exceptional. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice collection, Grant. The Molas Lake shot is phenomenal, and the Watkins Glen shot is right up there as well.

I'll tell you the New England states get some wonderful Autumns and judging by the photos from your site you must have been having a grand ole time
Oh yeah I like the Molas Lake and arches night shots, I did like the first posting of the night shot, those are some bright stars. People who live in the cities don't know what they are missing out on do they.

Grant, nice collection. What caused the highlighting in the Arches shot? I don't see any sign of star tracks, so I'm assuming the exposure was less than about 30s. Was it near sunset?

Nice variety of excellent imagery. That first Arches night shot kills!

Thanks for the feedback. I probably did tone down the second stars shot too much. I'll revert to the first or maybe mess with it some more to get something I like better.
Ken, by highlighting, I assume you mean the sphere of light and the dark edges. I'm quite sure that's just major vignetting from the lens. It's a lot more pronounced when the aperture is so wide (1.4) and when there's so little light. Sometimes I correct that in Lightroom, but I kind of liked the effect here.
This was shot about 1 1/2 hours after sunset, so it was completely dark by then (no moon). It was around 30 secs at 1600 ISO.
I guess the new Nikon D3 can shoot at a true 6400 ISO. The noise is supposedly not too bad for such a high ISO. So if anyone gets this camera and would like to loan it to me, I'll be glad to test it out at night for you and report back .
