I haven't looked lately, but B&H and Adorama run deals on Sandisk quite frequently. Whatever you do, stick with a reputable company and NEVER buy memory cards on ebay as they are notorious for having many counterfeit vendors there.

B&H has an Ultra II 8GB for $119

Sandy, it would appear the same Transcend card is cheaper at My Digital Discount. HOWEVER, keep in mind not all CF cards are the same. I've been reading up on this lately, and everything I read points to very real differences between cards. It basically boils down to you get what you pay for. I don't even begin to claim that I understand any of the techno talk, but to summarize every article I've read, Sandisk seems to be (by far) the most reputable and dependable card out there at the moment. As card prices are getting cheaper by the minute, is it worth taking any unnecessary risks? Just food for thought. Adorama (here) has Sandisk Extreme III for $109 (after rebate).
Hmmmm...let's see.... MANY thousands of dollars of photo equipment. New hot camera. Thousands for the photo trip. So I'm trying to save $29.95 by getting cheaper cards?
Thanks for the needed smack!!

Sandy - Amazon has them here for $99 if you want to avoid the Visa card/rebate thingy.
Just as another tip, I usually use My Simon to check for stuff like this. Here's the comparison page from MySimon. I don't think it searches B&H or Adorama, but it looks at a lot of other sites and is really useful. I have noticed that sometimes Amazon's price on MySimon is much higher than on Amazon, so I check Amazon as well.

Thinking out of the box, rather than get an expensive 8 gb card or two, why not get a portable hard drive/card reader. If you have a couple of 2 or 4 gb cards, an old dead laptop with a viable hard drive, this is worth considering - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2719705&Sku=S78-1000&SRCCODE=NEXTAG&CMP=EMC-NEXTAG
If you are uncomfortable with extracting a hard drive and installing it in a generic enclosure, then consider this - http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=600036&Redir=1&description=EDGE-160GB%20Portable%20Hard%20Drive%20with%20Multi-Card%20Reader%20&%20USB%202.0%20Hub-External%20Hard%20Drives
They are available with up to 300 gb capacity, and some even have color screens so you can view your images - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/524058-REG/Sanho_SAHDCS120_120_GB_HyperDrive_COLORSPACE.html
Although an 8 gb card seems like a great idea and cards are relatively reliable these days, I still shudder at getting the dreaded "memory read error" message on my camera and losing 100s of pics.
Hope this helps.

Speaking of the hard drive solution, I have the Epson P-5000 (80GB) but there is the P-3000 (40GB) for $359 after $50 rebate ( http://www.wolfcamera.com/product/811372333.htm ). It has a beautiful 4 inch LCD screen to view your shots to make sure you got the pic. CF and SD slots, etc. May be cheaper elsewhere. Buydig has it for $337 after the rebate. If you don't mind a smaller screen then I can also recommend the hyperdrives (http://www.hypershop.com/shop/ ). Either way, a lot cheaper than a bunch of CF cards. Good luck!
I have the Epson P-5000 and love it. but when i'm out on a photo trip for 2 weeks, i easily take 8000 images (especially if i'm shooting flying birds with several frames per second bursts) and don't always have time to heavily edit to free cards before i download. So i need both the storage device AND several 8 gb cards (sadly!)
Thanks for all the great information! Love NPN !

Sandy hi
before you buy any card anywhere check in your manual the list of card's that are compatable ,because when we get to card's that hold a lot of space(GB) they do not work with all camer's.
This goe's for all camera's and all cards over 2 GB.
