Your opinion requested
Just finished an article in OP about b/w conversions by James Kay. Got me thinking about my one of my older color images and whether or not it would look better in b/w.

I would appreciate your feedback and opinion on whether the b/w conversion is more "artistic" than the original color image. I'm feeling the urge to start thinking more about b/w potential for my exhibit/show imagery.

I would appreciate your thoughts! :wavey:

Here is the color version using the same resizing and sharpening spec's. Which one do you prefer and why? Thanks!

Wayne I think the black and white is very good, I just prefer the color landscape images in general more personaly. So I pic the color version for this image. I like the color in the tall grass on the right, sky etc.

Well done on the conversion, Wayne. However, I'm with Gale and prefer color for landscapes like this. The color version is very nice btw.

Personally I prefer the b&w. Seems more dramatic to me. Too much brown in the color photo.

Whether it's color or bw, it's always personal perference. My belief is, "It's in the eye of the beholder". I've had people ask me, "Do you have it in bw"? I like both of your pictures. The bw has an imbalance due to too much black on the left side, it looks heavy on that side. If you can lighten one of the dark areas just a bit that might work (for me). I really LOVE the ripple water-color like effect on the water. There are so many textures in this image that my eyes take me all over the place and gives me a sense of serenity; I want to be there.

Wayne, I vote for the color version. It looks like Rocky Mountain National Park?

Both are really nice, Wayne, but the illuminated area in the mountains seems to pull me up there more in the color version. I would have to go with the B&W. Either way, this is some nice work.

My personal preference is B&W, but that's almost always the case.

I think you have great complimentary colors here. I wouldn't want to lose them. I think you need to compare prints though.

Wayne,

As most have said, I like both images. But I seem to like the B&W version of this one a little better. :toast:

Thanks for sharing your opinions everyone. I appreciate you taking the time to help with my request. What I found compelling was that in the b/w version there is a stronger contrast in the details in the distant mountains and the same for the clouds. Both seem much more defined IMO and, therefore more visually appealing. I'm going to look for a few more images I think may be good candidates for conversion and see what happens.

Thanks for your input! :wavey:
