ID help
was wondering if anyone could help out with IDing this bird, as a sense of scale it is smaller than a turnstone

I think it's a Sanderling (Calidris alba)

Well captured.

I changed my mind. A Knot has Yellow legs. I thinks it's a Sanderling.

Hi Jack,

It is a Sanderling, usually running in and out of the surf....

Nice shot....

Hi,

It looks more like an adult winter Dunlin to me... .I think the bill is slightly down curved.

Jack,

If you have any other shots showing the legs / feet.... the Sandling lacks the hind toe.

Jack,

That looks like a hind toe to me.... therefore I recon Dunlin.

I use a number of field guides to id birds but my favorite is "Bird Guide" - "Mullarney, Svensson, Zetterstrom and Grant" - Collins.

Definitley a dunlin, downcurved (kinked) bill gives it away. Sanderlings also show a dark patch at the bend of the wing (carpal joint).
Nice shot also Jack. :toast:

Dunlin without a doubt.
