40D, 500f4, 1.4x, 580ex flash/better beamer, iso 400, 1/320, f5.6 in manual mode. Tripod. Raw, levels, slight crop to lhs and bottom, usm.
My last image from 2007, this lovely looking bird was spotted yesterday and so I popped down to try and get a shot of it. It was a very dull overcast afternoon with very little light to play with. I put my waterproofs on and sat down on the edge of the pond to get as low as poss. This I'm told is the first record of a Scaup on Guernsey since 1996 so it was a nice end to the year for a lot of bird watchers (and photographers).
Thanks and best wishes to all for the coming year.

Hi Paul,
Nice to have an excellent shot of this scarce visitor. Nicely exposed and composed.
All the best for 08

Cracking shot Paul - exposure.comp and PoV spot on
Just need a teenyweeny bit of work on the eye where the flash has blown the pupil - ten seconds with a small brush and it'll be done.
Nice one mate
Happy New Year
