Wintery Ruckel Creek
I had a great morning today to break the Winter doldrums with Eric and Darren. We met up early and took a hike up Ruckel Creek. The water levels were perfect and the foliage was still in pretty good shape.

This is a classic (for you) shot, Ned. I love it. It's kind of interesting because my eyes immediately start out at the water in FG and then the stream leads me to BG where you've nicely used that arching limb over the water.

Thanks for the comments! Well I learned today just how much I am missing a good wide angle again. I slapped my old 20mm on for the first time since I was still using film. The extra 4mm of width showed me the compositional flexibility I have been yearning for. The 20mm prime still appears to be a fairly good lens, but the amount of CA I saw with it is quite substantially worse than my L lens.

That's really nice framing, Ned - you'd never guess this is a dead of winter shot! Terrific foreground.

Another gem, Ned. Love the arching, moss covered tree. And of course the motion in the water, especially in the fg detail of the little cascade there. Very nice. You do that so well; never tire of seeing these images from you.

Sweet one Ned, I knew it would be when I saw you setting up for the shot.

Top notch shot Ned. I love the look of the flowing water over the foreground rocks and how the creek leads me to explore the rest of the scene in the end to see the nice arching moss covered tree/limb. My only nit or worry is that the arching limb is too close to the top and that matting may crowd or overlap it.

The moss covered arch makes this a different and special creek image, Ned, and I love it. Looks like you got everything nearly perfect. I like how the light around the arch illuminates it and the moss boulders. If you hand lightened that area you did a great job. On my monitor the trunk of the tree in upper left has too little detail and needs some attention.
