Perfect light, weather and water all came together today while out shooting with Eric and Ned....
Sad day for me as my 4 year old D70 bit the dust.....and would not reset itself....so I went and did a little camera, lens and cable release shopping today....
No one had the D3 in stock so I ended up getting the D300 with a couple new lenses....I still plan on getting the D3 in the late spring or early summer when they are more readily available ..
Happy new year to all....
This was the last frame I took with my D70......and I think it conveys the quality that can be achieved with a 6mp camera.....
Camera: Nikon D70
Exposure: 5 sec (5)
Aperture: f/16
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Thats a beauty Darren. A faithfull camera down to it's last image!

Quite cool, Darren - I see it widens out some up there... the lighting is great!
Glad to hear you found a suitable replacement - bummer about the failure in the field today...

That's cool that you got a nice parting photo from your camera, Darren. I put this little crash sequence together after the fact when I melted an earlier camera in a thunderstorm... but right ahead of these screen-o-death shots was a really nice waterfall scene... sigh... and I'll always remember that camera that way..!
(BTW, I think this came up here before, but I save all my old cameras on a shelf... can't bear to part with them - they're like like old friends!)
I like your shot, Darren. The light is wonderful, the colors good. That's one monster fern on the left. Bad news on the D70 and its fatality in the field. Turns into good news, though-- congrats on the D300.
Tom, cool how you keep your old camera friends.

Great control of the exposure Darren and great getting out shooting with you and Ned again.

Wonderful final capture from your trusted D70. Sad to hear though. Was it the BGLOD (blinking green light of death)? My early model D70 suffered from this 3 months after expired warranty. I wrote a cordial letter that accompanied the camera to the service center telling them about my trust in Nikon quality, etc... Needless-to-say, because it was a well known issue they fixed the camera gratis even though out of warranty.
I'm a little envious about the D300. Can't justify the purchase since I brought the D80 less than a year ago. Maybe you can make me a deal on the 300 when you move to the D3.
