I was a couple canyons west of Ned & Co. this afternoon, making another trip to Wahclella Falls. LOTS of people there, but I was the last one out at dusk. This is another shot from that same gravel beach that I've been experimenting with since this time last year.

Today was supposed to be another day of snowshoeing, but didn't get out of the house in time to make for a decent showshoe trip. I'll post some photos from yesterday's snowshoe soon - the mountains were gorgeous in our tiny window of sunshine!

BTW, this was taken with an Olympus E-510, 11-22mm lens at about 11mm, ISO 200, 2-second exposure, polarizer.

I kind of like this perspective. The brownish moss is probably true given the depth of the greens in the trees on the hill in BG. It may be just illusion to my eyes, but the bridge seems a little tilted down and to the right?

Tom,

This should be a great place in the Spring! I like the comp.

Nice composition Tom. I like this vantage point a lot. Seems a good one for this time of year, since the leafless trees don't block the upper falls much. Well done!

Nice picture. Should the moss be that faded yellow, even this late in the year?

You guys need to get on over to my side of the mountains more often when you feel crowded. On the roadside I rarely see others, and when I'm on the trail (or off trail as I prefer) the only time I see tripods is the Enchantment Lakes for two weekends in October. The Icicle attracts photographers but it's a looong road up the valley.

Classic comp and decent enough...still I think the best time to shoot the gorge is in May. The deadish moss makes me long for Spring.

Thanks for the comments & suggestions. The main thing that was bugging me about this shot was that light colored log sticking up near the right side of the bridge. I might do some scene editing next time I'm up there, and tip it into the creek. I get up this trail nearly every month, so I'll be trying this scene when the greens are back. I'm not particularly fond of this bridge, but there's not much to be done about that. It's actually installed at a pitch, making it a bit distracting (e.g., not level) in most photos. There's a terrific poster that Ron Cronin did in the 1980s (framed on my wall) taken from the upper viewpoint along the West wall, before the loop trail and bridge existed. Quite nice to see the area without the clutter!
