Teal
One from Salthouse at the weekend. Light was really dull and decided to try some fill flash. After shooting Lapland buntings and Snow buntings for about an hour, it wasn't until I left that I realised my IS was switched off   so no images to speak of as I was working from a beanbag and I'm obviously crap without IS!!!

techs:
1d2,500/4is + 1.4x, ISO 400, 1/250th, f6.3, -0.33ev, fill at -2

Hi Graeme, I always have trouble with the heads of these. I think the subdued lighting and the touch of fill has worked really well here. I thlnk I would like just a touch more light on the head to bring out the greens. :toast: :toast:

Agreed, it looks nice, not the easiest of birds to expose for, the fill looks just about right...

Whats IS?

This is one of those birds, (like coots) where it is not always easy to get the eye to show. Great job. If I had a £1 for every time I've done that with the IS switch I'd have a 500/f4 by now as well!! I think I might have to move a decent flash gun up the shopping list myself soon

Excellent - love the colour and detail. Maybe clone out the OOF pebble which is faintly distracting (very minor point)

Lovely shot that really shows off the detail of the teal's plumage.
