I took this on Monday while snowshoeing in the Lolo Pass area. Beautiful day, though I had to dodge a couple of snowmobiles along the way. That cloud in the foreground is from the stream of fog that was pouring over the pass, at times enough to obscure the lower half of the mountain. Comments and suggestions appreciated, as always!

Taken with an Olympus E-510, telephoto lens and polarizer.

Striking image, Tom. Love it with the black sky. The polarizer by itself didn't get the sky totally to black, did it?

Tom,
That camera is a secret gem for the price, isn't it?

Nice image, looks like a mountain made of plaster.

There's a little bit of processing (adjusted brightness and shadows) behind the black sky, Marc - but mostly it's a product of the polarizer and a very blue sky and sun angle.

Jim, this is a new camera for me - I just picked it up last Fall after using an E-330 for several years (and wearing out a second body). I mostly picked the Olympus SLRs for the Zuiko lenses. I've always liked them, and still have my old OM-1 and OM-10 from eons ago, along with some great lenses. That system still works well, though it's mostly a museum set now. I looked pretty hard at the E-410 for its compactness (reminded me of the OM-1), but opted for the 510 to have the image stabilization, since I've always been frustrated with the quality of hand-held photos. I don't take them often with an SLR, but when I do, they were invariably crappy.

Looks like a Brad Washburn photo.

Excellent study in contrast Tom. Maybe try one version with even more contrast in the shadows on the mountain - really harsh black and white sort of thing.

Yikes! I love it!

Hmm... not sure how to interpret the shocked reactions, but hopefully it's a good sort of shock! This was definitely meant to be bold, though I had to look up Brad Washburn to figure out that one, Marc! In this sort of photo, I'm more likely imitating the style of Edward Weston or Ansel Adams, both of whom I'm much more familiar with. I've got a couple more in a similar vein that I'll post, so keep those sunglasses on..!

Yep, a good sort of shock - I felt it too when I first looked at this image. Great view!

Stunningly bold and super job on the highlit elements. The only complaint that I have is in regards to the ?clouds? on the trees in the lower left. That area attracts my eye too much and as soft as it is, seems odd when compared to the rest of the scene.
