Photokit Sharpener and Lightroom - Capture Sharpening

I have a question for those who use Lightroom along with Photokit Sharpener in Photoshop.
Lightroom applies (by default) some sharpening to all images. I'm wondering how this works or doesn't work with the capture sharpening in PK Sharpener.

Is it better to:
a) turn off Lightroom sharpening and apply PK Capture Sharpening?
b) Use only Lightroom sharpening and no PK Capture Sharpening?
c) use both?

I've been using the default Lightroom sharpening for my capture sharpening and only using Photokit sharpener for output sharpening for prints. I'm wondering what's best.

Thanks!

Tom,

My 0.02 worth. I'd only capture sharpen once. If you aren't round tripping into Photoshop then, probably, just the Lightroom would be enough.

Since you already output sharpen I'm assuming your workflow brings everything through photoshop so I'd do color noise reduction in Lightroom, turn off the sharpening in Lightroom and use PK for your capture sharpening.

I use the capture sharpening in LR 1.3 set with a pretty heavy mask and low radius. Then when i roundtrip to ps i will do noise reduction and a second round of light sharpening (with Nik sharpener pro) , then after resizing for print (or whatever) i will do my final output sharpening (with PK sharpener).
This has always worked very well for me.

I posted this question over at the Lumnious Landscape forums as I know Mr. Schewe pops up there now and again so,
straight from Jeff Schewe's reply:

-Capture sharpen in Lightroom, export to CS3 and output sharpen with PK?
-This is what I do...(Michael, last time we spoke still used PKS for all sharpening).
-
-Note that the aim for LR/CR sharpening is to "just make it look good" at 1:1 (100% zoom).
-Don't try to under/over sharpen because you simply can't do final sharpening visually.
-
-After getting a "good image" and then for final output prints, I'll run the image though PKS
-Output Sharpen once the size/resolution (PPI/Inch) is determined.
-
-This has worked will since LR 1.1 and CR 4.1 came out.

It is my undersdanding that Capture Sharpening in PK Sharpener and the sharpening in Lightroom and ACR 4.xx were written by the same group of people. I also believe they do essentially the same thing. So, I use the sharpening in ACR as my capture sharpening step, saving a step after exporting to CS3. I do follow through with the creative sharpening step and save as TIFF. When I am ready to print I do the output sharpening.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ed. It would appear that I'm doing it right then.

I've found that I like the capture sharpening in ACR 4.x over the capture sharpening in PhotoKit Sharpener.
Doing it the RAW converter does add a bit of extra work compared with using the PK Sharpener automation though.
