Hi All,

After a fair bit of surfing can't really come up with an answer I need  .

So over to you! Is £2175 a good price for this lens in immaculate condition

TIA

Regards

Rob

If it's from a shop, then yes, but at the high end. There's room for bargaining there.

If it's from a private seller then it's about a couple of hundred more than it should be.

I sold my one (absolutely mint condition) last year for £1800, I could have held out for a little more, but at no time did I ever think I'd get 2K for it.

If you do buy it, I have a set of Art Morris neoprene covers that would fit it.

Good lens :toast:

Rob,
Be careful with this lens. I looked into this before buying the 500/4 and I was put off by the suggestion that you might not be able to get certain parts for it anymore. I emailed a retailer (sorry, can't remember which one) and they confirmed this. Their advice was to make sure it was in very good nick before purchasing. Might be worth further investigation before committing.

I have a broken 300/2.8 that canon no longer have the parts for.... Now an expensive door stop!!

B&H Photo in New York will sell you a new one, which are superb, for $5500 and at 2 dollars to the pound that's only £575 more (plus the flight).....

You may be able to buy at $5,500 in America, but bringing it back in anything other than an empty suitcase you run the risk of customs entry duty and VAT which brings the price back in line to the Hong Kong Ebay values of £3,500 of so - B&H will send pukka airfreight delivery with disclosed sale price cost so you get caught with the duties ordering "on line", if you fly out to collect you have to factor in the risk costs and airfare.

I'd be inclined to hang on Rob. You'll eventually get a 500mm f4 turn up second hand at the right price. Check out the EOS Classified. That's how I bought mine and I'm well chuffed. Ok so it's a lot of money but better than spending £2k and regretting it. Buy the 4.5 and you'll still be left hankering for the f4 with IS
