Happy New Year to All!
We received a decent snow over the first two days of the year, so I went out yesterday to an area in the CVNP called "Ledges" (sometimes called Ritchie Ledges or Kendall Ledges). This is a large oval escarpment composed of ancient river deposits that flowed westward into Ohio from the rising Appalachians. This escarpment hosts a unique microclimate featuring yellow birch and hemlocks that are typically found much further north.
This image is from the western, "dry" side of the escarpment. The wet side is much greener and features lots of moss and ferns. To give a sense of scale, the foreground boulder is about 8 feet tall.
Looks like a neat spot Chuck. I like the touches of snow along the exposed, overhanging areas.

I feel like it might tip over on me.. :) I really enjoy this kind of stuff.. The trees growing up the face, the texture of the rock, the layers.. You've presented them well..
this is nice I might have to join you there someday and make the drive down from Erie

Chuck.... Conp is nice.. I'd maybe crop just a bit on the bottom and saturate the sky a bit. Good job on documenting an area I didn't shoot tooo much when living there.

Wish I'd had time to see some of this when I was there a few years ago. I agree with Jack regarding the crop form the bottom, maybe to just the small rock in the LRC? Good capture, Chuck.

Very cool image Chuck. I don't live in the area anymore, but I am always checking this forum for image posts of my former northern Ohio stomping grounds. I just sent in my NPN membership and am looking forward to posting a few of my own images of CVNP here.

Another great shot Chuck, I love the contrast between the snow and the colors in the cliff. Wonderful work
