For this months suggestion we dug into the barrel of topics suggested by you! ...and since everyone is probably tired of snow and holiday pictures, this moth’s topic is totally unrelated to the season - “Fog, Mist, and Haze”.

So let’s see some “foggy” pictures.

BTW – if you have suggestions for future topics feel free to shoot me or Rich an email.

San Juan River near Bluff, Utah. The sun is rising to the left just outside the frame providing the orange/pink glow in the fog.

Scott, that shot is wicked!

But really, should we just give Todd the prize now?
Posted by Scott Fricke on January 4, 2008 at 2:31 PM
Thanks Mel.

I know Todd's reputation as the "Cloud Guy", but I think he still needs to earn the title of "Fog, Mist, and Haze Guy"

Sweet shots!

Here's one from the Tetons:

I dug deep in my hardrive for this one, first time it's seen the light of day--i shot so many fog pics while living on the Redwood Coast. Shot just up the street from my cottage on Fickle Hill, how i miss those endless foggy days

nice stuff guys, great shots!

Daniels's Park near my home had a pretty bad burn a couple of years ago. This was taken on a cold, foggy day in May. I liked the muted colors and the stark tree trunks from the burn.

Pam, that's an awesome mist shot!
Here's one i just got around to processing, even though i shot it a couple years back at same location as previous post in this thread.

There is some great misty images being posted here!!. I wasn't sure if images in this thread are restricted to the Rocky Mountain region or not, because having lived on the East coast for 4 years I have a truck load from there :).
Well just in case, I dug through my archives and pulled one from 2003, shot on slide film back then ;).

This is from Grand Teton National Park on a day when it was to foggy to see the mountains.

Well, at first I didn't think I really had anything recent (or remembered) that I thought was worth posting for this theme. Then I decided to take another look at some of the shots from a cool day in Telluride with Derek this fall. These shots were still pretty far back in the processing queue. But I'm glad I revisited them.

I saw these fishermen unpacking their gear so I decided to hang around to see where they were going to fish. The fog was so thick I had to hang around awhile until I could see them through it.

There are some great shots in this thread. It took me a while to figure out what to post. While browsing my catalogs for another project I found this sunrise shot. Appropriately titled purple haze.

Found another one. I don't think I've submitted this one before.

A bit more symbolic I suppose.

Awesome elk shot Monte!

Incredible imagery everyone!!!

I love everything about Colorado, that's why I moved here 17 years ago! But there is one thing that I wish it had more of......fog! Too darn dry out here! Of course, if I just hung out with Todd a little more, I'd get my fill!

So, here are a couple of mine. First off, one from the fall of 06, along highway 550, just outside Ouray. Darren K and I waited out the rain for a half hour or so, and i finally decided to shoot anyway. Got a bit wet, and you can't really tell it's raining too hard, but I liked the shot.

Next one was shot last summer from near the top of Hermit Pass in the Sangre De Christos, just after sunrise. This is looking northeast to at Pikes Peak.

Love these foggy shots! I was digging through some stuff and worked this one up. Taken up the road from Rye, Colorado. Heard a car coming and shot just as the headlights appeared past the pine trees.

I always love coming to this site and seeing such amazing photos. Heres my attempt from Christmas eve day back in 05 in Yosemite.

I found this little trinket along Virginia Canyon Road, near Central City. This was taken in October of 05'.

I think that steam shovel's been moved to Nederland now. Nice shot for historical purposes - not many people get up to that section of Virginia Canyon.

Lots of excellent imagery here. Here's one from a secret location in Grand Teton NP taken about twenty-five minutes before sunrise. I've been seeing a lot of cooler toned images lately so I thought of this one.

One more from where I used to live back east. Brandywine Creek, Cuyahoga Valley NP, Ohio.

Monte - incredible elk shot! Love the other elk in the background.

Joshua - also really sweet!

Here's a couple more from me. This one was the fall of 06, on the west side of Owl Creek Pass.

Here's an image from one of the most spectacular weekends I've ever spent at the Maroon Bells, in September of 2006.
Posted by Mel Ladewig on January 21, 2008 at 1:22 PM
Posted this on its own, but it belongs here too. I sat here watching the clouds breaking on the mountains like waves. Occasionally, I would get enveloped and then the fog would recede back into the valley below.

Great collection as usual! Here's one from Erik's neck of the woods. I was proud of myself because I made it to this location in the same amount of time that Erik could've made it in. Location: Bear Lake.

This is a red-channel conversion from a velvia scan.

edit - ooh, some serious compression/jpeg issues at the bottom of this version. sorry.

The Snowy Range is one of my favorite locations. I try to make a trip up there every summer with my family. I got lucky with the conditions on this day.
