Bonjour
First of all happy new year everyone, hope for better weather this year! As promised here is are some pictures of my floating hide taken this morning.
If you have any question just ask.
This picture was taken last spring from my floating hide, great crested grebe yawn all the time(you noticed that when you are closed to them)
This one was about 3 meter away from me on the water and started to yawn. This picture was taken with the 300mm and the 2 time converter at F16! At 800 iso, for that kind of shot, the mark 3 is superb. I wanted the picture to make a big impact so the picture has been crop a little.
Hope you like it
Bonne soiree.
Frederic
Frederic, great to see images of your floating setup... you really must be confident when using it... your image is great too but I do fel that the point of focus is too far back, I realize that more DoF was not possible, here it really needs to be further forward...
All the best
Phil

First of all. Happy new year
Second: FANTASTIC shot.
Third: I would like to know how it looks inside. How do you sit or do you just walk on your knees? How is the camera supported?
Hi Phil
Thanks for your comments. I feel that with the 300mm and the 2 time it would not have been possible to have the all head sharp and certainly not the all bill. In my view the eyes are sharp and that is the most important thing.
Regards
Frederic

Fantastic image - I feel your point of focus is about right as any further forward and the eyes may not have been in sharp focus and they certainly would not have been if the bill had been sharp from front to back!

WOW! amazing image!!!
Focuspoint a bit more towards the eyes would maybe make it even better but I love it the same as it is now
Hi Sam
Nice to have another Belgian on this site! I am from Soignies.

My God Frederic, any closer and we would have been able to see the one behind as well. Fantastic shot, beautiful ruby eyes. Focus is good for me. I like your pictures they always seem to be a bit different. Eric
Hi Frederic it's a very nice image but the whites are blown on the side of the head which lets it down a little.

Hi Frederic,
Wow what an image, now I can see why you call it 'in ya face!'
This may seem like a really supid question but what is the hide floating on, do the bits at the bottom support the hide alone? and also what do you use to support the camera?
Thanks and Regards
Chris.

Wow, fantastic shot! You are certainly a great deal more dedicated than I to brave that cold water.

Great shot, no doubt the slight white blowout can be sorted I admire your determination and would love to have a go at this sometime if I can ever get over the worry about drowning my equipment......oh, and myself!

Impressive shot Frederic
I take it your hide has a hole in its floor which you stand in and you walk the hide around with your feet on the bottom of the lake?
Do you use a harness to stop yourself falling through if you suddenly find you are in deep water?
Thanks for all the comments
I have some picture of inside the hide I will post them tomorrow.
Yes I am standing under the hide and walk with it. No i do not use a harness. The hide is fill with expanding foam (the one we use to fill cavity wall)
My lens is not on a head inside the hide but on top of a bean bag. I do not see the point of using a tripod head wich is going to raise the lens of the water!!! The all point of the floating hide is to be eye level with your subject!!! the lower the better.
You have got to be VERY concentrate when you get in and out of the hide with the gear. one false move and it is all over and very expensive!.
THE BIGEST problem with a floating hide is to find a place where you can use it! I would not recomend the seaside wave etc...Hope this help
Have a good evening
Here is a picture of inside the hide
On the left there is a square made with plastic pipe, that is where I keep all my little kit.
The hole in the meadle is where the lense goes. The canvas is hold down with plastic pipe and cable tie (do not rust, this hide is six years old)
you see that the inside is U shape that is where you stand. I rest my elbow on the left and right to stabilise the all hide. I often get water in the chest wader....it look like you have wet yourself!! the first time this happened to me I was just out of the hide and a woman just went past with her dog....she did looked at me with a strange look!
Hope this help

Super image, and I like the POF as is. Thanks for the useful info about your hide.
Best wishes
Phil
The hide looks like a much better version of Johnny Kingdoms!!
