I headed up to Aspendale yesterday while we were between storms and managed to get a couple shots of the newly fallen snow. Looks like they picked up a couple feet of new snow.
It was very nice being out there. While they were getting dumped on with snow we were getting dumped on with rain in Bishop!! I picked up 4.6" of rain at my house!!

Here's a link to some more from yesterday. The images with the utility pole was just off the south lake road and 168 split. Looks like that little area gets some tremedous wind, add the icing from the lines and poles snap like tooth picks. Hope you all survived the storm unscathed.

Hi Cory. Much to be excited over. This one monster storm series has turned this winter around quickly from the droughty beginnings. Tthe central Sierra was particularly drenched. As of Sunday morning the remote station at Wawona has reported nearly a foot of precip and Mammoth Pass over 8 inches. Most snow is the 8 to 11 feet at Kirkwood. Major avalanche period will take some time to stablilize. I really noticed the 3.7 inches Bishop got Friday. Of course that is more than their annual precipitation totals so it bodes huge for at least parts of the Owens Valley proper. Although as a newcomer, you may have not seen what can happen in those areas, I would expect there is a decent chance, that the Bishop Tuff areas of the Sherwin Grade will once again really have a rare crop of yellow wildflowers this May. ...David

Thanks for your comments guys!
@David: Sure was a big storm, finally! Though if you listen to the old timers this was the norm back in the day! Thanks for the tip about the flowers in the tablelands.
@Paul: have fun in JT. Should be a good time to go after the storm.
@RW: From my experience most of the dirt roads around the Alabamas are pretty well graded and 2wd friendly. So long as they aren't covered in several inches of snow!! Paul knows the area better and can give you better details.

The Alabama Hills are always open. I have been there during all kinds of weather and have never had issues driving on the main dirt roads. If you get off onto the side dirt roads it is best to have 4WD. If the snow is heavy, typically it only blocks the Whitney Portal road at the base of the range, Olivas Ranch road area, and then on the south side on the climb up to Horseshoe Meadows. Also Hedgehog road can be a mess near the base of the Whitney Portal merge. But the lower part is usually good connecting up with Moffat Ranch road. Other then that, the Alabama Hills are never an issue. Unless CHP blocks it for a movie or commercial run. I have had that take place at least 4 times while I've been there, but they usually let you pass after a short wait in most cases.

Nice Cory! I really like the shot with the stream.
Hope the storms continue off and on so we can have a bumper crop of wildflowers later this year!

A real fairy-tale like scene. Lovely.

i got a good laugh this morning at Baldy. saw all these 4WD and pickups slipipng and getting stuck in ice and needed to put on chains while I just cruised on past them w/ no issues in the Corolla. 4WD is overrated!

Cory,

A little late to the party, but I must say that I like this. I like the reds of the trunks against all the white snow and really like the "opening" in the middle, giving the composition some space. I like even better the opening image on the flikr link as well of this same, but broader composition. That one is really nice.
