This year has been hit and miss in the Garden so far. I get snow at my house which is only ~ 8 miles away. Then I rush over to the GoGs and find it bone dry.

So today I took my son there after a morning snow and finally got some decent white stuff. Not a huge dumping. But it was definately a welcome site and fun for us.

I 'almost' made it in time to shoot during the snow also. Here are the shots:

Just an FYI, it is supposed to snow again so tomorrow could also be good or even better.

Wow nice, I almost went down there this AM too, looks like I should have!

Great shots!

Nice stuff, Derek! It's looking pretty good for some snow tomorrow afternoon through eve. Might be able to get some snowing shots before sunset, and tue morn could be awesome at sunrise! I may pull a Caudle and head for Westcliffe.

I plan to pull a Caudle myself (mind, gutter, out!), but not sure which way I'll head.

P.S.: Those are nice shots...

Nice Derek! I wanted to be there this morning but, I am not over this stupid bug I have had all week. Grrrr.... Oh well, got something a little different this afternoon!

Great sunrise colors!

I went down later in the day and got a mix of shots; I'd have them up, but it seems my computer is still holding on to too many older photos and has run out of space!

It was nice getting to see some red rocks; I'm beginning to get a hankering for Utah again and GotG is a much closer way to ease the craving.

Love your sunrise shots from earlier in the week!

Thank guys,

Some of those shots from the bright pink sky over the Garden were actually from last year from the road above the VC. The rest were this year.

I guess page two from my gallery shows different thumbnails based on the monitor's dimensions. I would love to get another morning like that bright one this Winter. The one's from yesterday start with this shot:

Yowza! Awesome work dude! Too bad i was photographing stuff that wasn't as fun. Monday night took me 2 hours to get home because i had to cover multiple accidents and emergency responses on post and then try to drive home myself. Today home sick. :frown:

You caught some nice light Derek. The last http://landandseaphoto.smugmug.com/photos/240584263-L.jpg is particularly nice in the group.

Man I'm glad I've finally shook my cold. There have been some epic colors in the clouds at sunrise the last couple weeks, but I was not about to get out in the cold for them. It took me two weeks to shake off the sinus cold.

I was actually jogging in the Garden this Tuesday morning up on the ridges before work. I had to hurry because of some meetings. I wasn't there for morning light. But what a beautiful Winter day in the Garden!!! This morning was what living in Colorado is all about for me. Lots of fresh powder. I was even free skiing down the ridges. No skis required LOL!!! :jump:

I have been dodging colds, flus and bugs left and right. Everyone in my family is sick, people at work are coughing and sneezing. Its like a freakin' minefield.

I know I probably catch something eventually. But for now I am enjoying my health.

Well, there's that tree again. I can tell ya that I'll never get tired of seeing it. Nice Derek. Last May I had to visit the Garden and get my version of it. (minus the snow :frown: )

LOL... I know what you mean

Yes, I ran all over the Garden yesterday looking for 'different' compositions from ole faithful. But alas after reviewing my images 'the tree' shots still looked the best to me.
Here are a couple of other comps which were Ok from different locations:

But I think the difference for me is that at 'the tree' you get great foreground, mid ground and background elements all rolled into one. That said however I will continue my quest for spots which are different.

Also with the right kind of frost everything in the Garden changes. Here is a totally different perspective from last Spring which I am fond of:

NICE!! Of the three I like the 1st one the best. There's just something about Pikes's Peak with snow on it that is sooooo special. I wish I had given myself more time last may to do more exploring. Guess I'll just have to make another trip through there sometime.

Thanks for the feedback Laurie. I think of all the other 'alternative' comps I shot yesterday that was the one I wanted to try again with some nice morning light.

Nice shots Derek. And I like the new Smugmug site.

Way nice!
I live just minutes from the Garden, but the timing has just been awful this winter. It always seems to be snowing on my way TO work!
I wish work didn't get in the way of my hobby!

I know what you mean Bob! That is why I'll go in the dark before work, shoot the sunrise and then hit the road. My best stuff in the Garden so far has been on weekdays before work. Sometimes I make it in a little bit late. LOL...

When recently changing jobs I had to decide between two offers - one out at Schriever AFB and the other at Verizon. You can guess which one I chose.
