The weather was just too nice to stay home!
I made a quick trip today to Falling Water Creek. Bill Dark posted a great shot back in October from the creek and I wanted to explore this area a little more. There was a little more water than we had in October but obviously less color. It was pretty easy to get down to the creek with a short bushwack from the road. I headed back up to the bluffline and got a few more shots. Bill I know you will remember this spot!

The view from the bluff line.

Tom, your top shot is terrific! I love the repeating pattern of the semi-circular rock shelves. Great composition, exposure and processing. I think I've spotted this location from the road before. Is it between Falling Water Falls and Six Finger Falls? Regardless, do you happen to know the mileage from this spot to either of those falls I mentioned?

Nice to see some more water in there (even if it's only a little). Really nice, Tom - I love the warm tones you show in the top image.

This area is our version of "The Wave" - at least the closest that we have. It is just downstream a little ways from where the road/bridge crosses the creek. There is also a little waterfall that comes in from the road side and pours over that bluff, but it is difficult to shoot when the water is high, and there is nothing to shoot when the water is not high.

Hey Tom, nice shot! I certainly have some fond memories from this location.

I think I like the second shot a little better, although the color balance seems to be just a little cooler. The thick carpets of green moss show very nicely, and the water is beautiful! Nice work.

Unfortunately, I spent the day changing oil, flushing the radiators, and greasing our vehicles since it's been so bright and windy . There is some snow in the forecast for Saturday though.

John,

As I mentioned, I bushwacked into the area from the road but the easiest way to get to the location of the view from the bluffline is to follow a small drainage that is just north of the county road that intersects the road along Falling Water Creek. Delorme maps lists this as County Road 265 but I have always called it the Whitt Springs Road. You can see the spot from the road at the intersection. Just beyond you will notice two yellow markers where the drainage crosses under the road. There is a small area to park just north of there. The overlook is less than one hundred yards down the drainage. The bluff slopes downstream and is relatively easy to follow to get to the creek bed. It is just upstream from Six Finger Falls maybe a quarter of a mile.

Tim E., I thought about you and the waterfall when I saw it from creek level. My thought was it would be a nice one with water and I have not seen it in your book. You would have to access via canoe or hike down from the low water bridge on river left, as you said a difficult bushwack! Have you seen it with water?

Tom glad to see you got out. You got some good images of the creek. I know the location also. It's very neat from on top of the bluff, there is some beautiful moss along the bluffline.

What an interesting area to visit! I agree that the second one is the best but the first one is pretty nice also.

This makes an awesome winter composition, the wintertime brown really mixes and complements well with the Wave style layered rocks. I checked out this location back in November and had the nice fall color but no water flow but really found the area unique and almost reminds me of an old weathered down Southwest scene.

Great job, I really enjoyed your take on it
