FOUND !!! The Source of Alpenglow?

Hi everyone,

Well, maybe not the true source, but I like to think so....

I've had such a great experience posting my "Forest Lights" Photo, I thought I'd post another of my 'best efforts'. (at least, according to my 'Eye'...)

Let me know your thoughts on this one..... I'll explain how and when I got this shot, after work today...

Thanks!!

Stay Focused and look for the light,

Nice!! I've seen other images of a similar pillar of light but have never witnessed one in person.

Neat catch Dave. I've seen this phenomenon before, but never this intense.

Thanks Toni!

As promised, Here's the story about how this photo came about....

This Sunrise shot was taken in Teton National Park about a year and a half ago... I'd been driving all the roads I could find for around 3 or 4 days, more or less scouting out photo-ops and taking lots of photos....
I drove down a dirt trail trying to get down to the Snake River, and ended up at 'turn-around' near a small creek. There was a white van parked there with Florida plates, and a big flat platform on top, but no one in sight... I parked my SUV and got my cameras out and went for a walk.... It wasn't long before I noticed and older fella setting up a 5x7 Deardorff. (older means a whiter beard than mine... Age is relative...)
I walked over and said hello. After we talked for a while, I asked if he could recommend any good spots for a 'novice' to get a few nice shots... he pointed out a trail and said there was a Beaver Pond down there, and if I got there really early in the morning, I could get a great reflection shot of the Tetons with Alpenglow reflecting in the pond. I took a walk down to the pond, and found a spot that would be perfect. I set up and took a few shots to get the framing I wanted, and moved on.... I would definately be back in the morning!!

Being a Flatlander from Wsconsin, everywhere I looked, was an awsome sight.

I got up at 3:30am, threw my gear in the SUV and drove back to the turnaround near the Beaver Pond. To my surprise  , there were 5 cars parked there already...
I thought.... maybe fishermen?

As I neared "The Spot", I heard voices... It turned out to be 7 photographers all looking for the same shot I was after!!! It was an odd sight when I came around that last Pine tree...
These guys were having a ball, talking about everything under the sun, while waiting for the sun to come up. They already had their tripod legs intertwined and were shoulder to shoulder
right at the spot where I had planned to set up. They cordially invited me to join in on the tripod orgy, so I added mine to the forest of aluminum and Carbon Fiber.
(on the end of the line, of course....)
I got set up and still had plenty o ftime before the sun did it's thing, so I decided to pick up my tripod and walk a little further up stream, just to have a look around.
On the way back to the tripod forest, is when I saw this spectacular sun bolt. I quickly set up and took around 40 shots, at different zooms, apetures, and shutter speeds, before going back to the 'end of the line'. I did get some great shots of the Teton Range, with Alpenglow, and the glass smooth Beaver Pond, with the reflection, too.... Probably not as good as the others, but I also got to see where Alpenglow comes from.
As we were all packing up, I showed a couple of the guys what they'd missed while they were all tinkering with their gear and framing their shot...
Right in back of them, is where this Sunburst Photo came from....,
The old guy gave me some very valuable advice the day before.... He said, "Work slow and deliberate. .....and, look all around you. You'll miss some great stuff, if you don't".

The 'Old' guy's name was Clyde Butcher. Most of you know his work. If you don't, have a look.... www.clydebutcher.com
