Portland's Japanese Garden in January is a great time for
black and white. The wind is cold, the bones of the trees
exposed. The Lantern looks on and dreams of spring. (Me too!)

I'm loving the Nikon D300!

D300, 17-55 DX, 24mm, 2.5 seconds, f/11

The B&W treatment and incredible detail really make this shot..... good deal on the camera!

Thanks Ned. I tried to give it kind of a split toned effect. Make the highlights creamy colored and the shadows deep purple/blue. Like what you get in the darkroom with selenium toning and then sepia toning. I think it looks OK, but then maybe not...

No problem, Edward... not sure why you have not received any other comments, though.... sometimes it is hot or cold in here..

Nice work, Edward - it kind of resembles a duotone print, but could also work nicely as a straight B&W. It has a very slight tilt to the left to my eye that could be corrected with a 1-2 degree rotation clockwise. The other tiny fix I would try would be to tone down the hot spot on the roof of the pagoda - easily fixed. It's a very nice image!

Thanks Tom. You know I already straightened it! But I see what you're saying, it still is a bit tilted now that you mention it!
