It seems to be getting to be that time of year when many of the nocturnal's start showing their faces during the early and late day hours.
Over the last month, I have seen coyotes on at least 10 separate occasions in and around the Mid-Peninsula Open Space Preserves. One of my frequent places to go trail running - Arastradero Open Space Preserve in Palo Alto - I have seen coyotes on 5 out of the last 6 visits.
This shot was taken this morning while out for a run, the light not being the greatest (actually, the light being almost non-existent ). But being that close is very cool

It's funny you should post this now. I haven't heard them for awhile, but I did last night and this morning. Nice one!

Greg,
Great shot of the coyote. Two things I really like: the colors, not only of the coyote, but also the foreground green and background colors that really make the coyote stand out. Secondly, you nailed the sharpness of the eyes - as all good wildlife shooters should! :-)
what Lon said!! I too like that fg/bg colors and sharp eyes!! well done.

Wonderful image Greg!
I have noticed a lot of nocturnals are out, the morning after a big storm rolls through.

Thanks Cory, Lon, Murali, and Michael! The colors in this still really strike me - at the time it was foggy but the rising sun cast light off the fog. When that ended a few seconds later the coyote just didn't have the same color, and this can be seen in my sequence of images.

Michael, something I've noticed time and again as well. I always try to make it a point to head out before work if a storm just rolled through and the morning is clear.

Lovely portrait of this beautiful animal. The gaze, in particular, is captivating.
