taken at weekend at Leighton Moss, cropped to square for composition
D2Xs, sigma 300-800 at 800 end, f8 and 1/180 at 400asa
slight tweaks to contrast and saturation

As I said Steve - nice image
Never keen on square crops myself - but it screams editorial with all the lovely space for text

Yes, I like the space too, but why shoot it in the middle and crop off the left side, which is what I guess you have done. Why not put the post on the left of a full frame?
Nice enough image though.

thanks all for comments, it was taken in the centre of the frame so I could crop as required, I'm doing this quite specifically to allow some space either side so I can tweak the composition, rather than filling the frame with nowhere to go for comp adjustments
plus isnt the centre of the image always going to be sharper ?
and title now changed to Rook

Funny looking Rook
What makes you think it's a Rook then?

I didnt think it was a jackdaw, due to the thick bill and less rounded look abou the head, steve do you have a 100% crop of the head?

I can get one but it'll have to wait 3 days before I can post it !
must join up I guess

I think it was me who suggested to Steve it was a Jackdaw - Crow and Rook eyes would not appear like the eye in the image as their iris' are black.
That's my opinion anyway
A 100% crop of the bird might prove one or the other though

title changed as appropriate
