I recently talked with the individual responsible for submissions at Sierra Club Calendar and told me to get an invite you have to submit either some prints or tearsheets to him directly. What I was wondering is how many prints and what size should I send to him as this was not indicated by him and I did not get the opportunity to ask him. Thank for any input you might have. Thanks Kevin McNeal

When I initially approached them about 10 years ago, if I remember correctly, I sent tearsheets which consisited of previously published calendar samples. The size of the image in wall calendars varies with the publishing company but prints in the 8X10 to 11X14 range should do the trick. I certainly wouldn't send anything larger and anything smaller may not give them the information they need to judge quality for the sizes they need....the printed image in their wall calendars is a little over 10X12, considerably smaller, of course, for their engagement calendars. Remember, too, that they use primarily vertical images, exclusively in their wall calendars and the majority in their engagements, so I would suggest you submit primarily verticals.
Are they accepting digital images?? If so that is something new for them...(I haven't received this years' guidelines yet). They have always requested only transparencies up until a couple of years ago when they also started accepting images taken with digital cameras as long as they were converted to transparencies first.
Kevin,
I sent them 8x10 prints (fine art quality) when I submitted for my invitation.
Good Luck

I was on their invite until I went 100% digital. Last year I didn't submit due to the crazy way they wanted digital images (digital dupes). It was just stupid and expensive so I oped out until they take digital as a file.
