West Desert, Utah
This is an image of the Simpson Mountains from a Christmas afternoon journey into the West desert. Not much out there but solitude and a couple sheep herders. I basically just wanted to post something since becoming an official NPN member. C&C welcome. Thanks.

It is beautiful Jeff, but it would be nice to see it a bit larger.

If you hadn't identified this as Utah, I would've thought it was from the high deserts of Tibet! This is absolutely stunning, Jeff!

Great image, Jeff! I like the layering in the composition.

Thanks for the comment gents. Todd, it's funny you mention the Tibetan vibe because I specifically was trying for a Himalayan feel.

I tried to post it bigger, but the 200kb limtit stopped me. I'll have to try some different techniques so the image can be larger, so I'll probably be posting images frequently just to experiment and see what works, get ready for a visual assault. Also, it lost a little punch compared to the view on my home monitor. Any tips for these situations would be appreciated. I am self taught (trial and error, mostly error) at post processing and only have PS Elements. An update is seriously needed for for both my computer and PS.

Jeff,

Not sure if Elements has this, but the full PS has a "Save for Web and Devices" This creates much smaller JPEG files than the regular "Save As...". If Elements doen't do this and you don't have the cash for a full version of PS, I suggest getting a copy of The GIMP - if you're on Windows, it's at http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net; The GIMP isn't quite up to hardcore photo editing (it only does 8-bit processing), but it will save your images in a nice compact form after you're done editing them in Elements. (A GIMP 2.4 manual is now available at http://www.gimp.org if you need help using its interface...)

Here's a larger version. Thanks Les, Elements does have save for web.

I would just crop very small amount off the bottom, as the bottom right corner is not a part of the mountain. Otherwise, this is great! I also would not have guessed Utah. Thank you for sharing.
