How I long for summer days...
....depressing isnt it, this shot is simply the hook that draws me back to Cornwall again and again.

I spent a Mayday Monday 2004 walking the cliffs with my EOS 5 (note the absence of 'D') and only lens I had, a 28-105 f3.5-4.5. The weekend was utter perfection; an almost fictional set of conditions, perfect clarity, gorgeous blues, mid twenties, thrift everywhere. Skylarks, wheatears, soft splashes of lapping crystal waters, toy boats and tankers. I spent much of that weekend simply existing, lazing on the grass clifftops, stretching, listening, looking and laughing with Rach.

This image makes me ache every time I see it. Taken at 12 noon the sunshine just blasted through the water. I used Velvia50 and a Hoya polariser to cut through the water. I spent ages just looking through the viewfinder, fascinated by just how much detail was revealed.

Only 5 months to go!

Stunning David.

You've got my memories going now  . Cornwall is a truly stunning county and I would much rather be there than on a beach in the Med. Can't wait until my annual summer holiday there :jump:

Regards

Great shot David - love how you've caught the rocks underwater - super job :toast:

A part of the country I keep meaning to familiarise myself with

Just goes to prove it's not all 4am starts! Cracking pic of a photogenic county that's for sure.

Thats a great thought and a beautiful shot. I got some nice ones from that location myself last summer. Can't wait to go back.

Thanks for cheering up an otherwise miserable Monday morning :toast:

Ha, so a polarizer can help with midday sun and harsh lighting? Have youneeded to blend to get rid of harsh shadows?
An awesome shot that I am inspired by due to a number of factors, but certainly the fact it can be done other than 4am and 6pm and still get superb results!
Most envious...... :toast:

No this is a straight shot, its all really harsh but what makes it work (I think) is the colour palette, without the clarity through the water and the overall visibility this would not work so well. The Velvia50 / polariser has enhanced the natural blue to such an extent.

Everyone likes to overdose on superlatives with landscape posts especially on ES&S, but this really was the clearest and bluest day I have ever seen. You could skim a stone to the Isles of Scilly.

Yeah fair points David. I does look amazing and like you say, without some of the key elements you describe, it wouldn't look half the shot it is! I can picture myself now with a ciggy and a beer! just taking it all in...... roll on the summer :toast:

Amazing colours, can see this on a postcard. Looking forward to summer also - just back from a 24hr break in the lakes and I dont think it stopped raining for a single minute.
