iso 100, f6.7, 500mm plus 1.7 telextender, 250th sec., D-300, about 30% of original frame.
Well, the new D-300 autofocus didn't work until I pressed the shutter the first time and it hasn't missed a beat since. Very fast focusing and considerably quicker and sharper than my D2X. Interestingly, it refuses to recognize Belkin equivalent batteries which work fine in my sons D-80. Otherwise, I am very happy with it. I might even sell my D2X.

David, pretty nice catch overall. Two small nits are that the Steelhead wasn't initially obvious and I wish for more background separation. Nice light on the Eagle.

I agree with you Mark, but this is what I got. It was through a lot of branches and I had to do some cleanup. How would you bring out the fish head?

Shots of Bald Eagles are soooo difficult with that mane of bright white feathers!!!
And why don't them thar eagles KNOW that they NEED to position that freshly caught lunch in such a way so that we can discern it from the background???!!
And hey don't they KNOW that my 500mm lens just doesn't quite reach up through them thar trees?! Don't land way up there!!! What in the world were you thinking!!!!! Get down from there!!!
I always find myself telling my eagles to do the right thing and they just don't listen to me.....geeze.... Misbehavin birds I mean really!!! No modeling tip for you Mr. Eagle...
These are the typical thoughts I go through as I'm "trying" to get that mind blowing image of a less than compliant EAGLE!! Your mileage may vary - darn it....

It was pretty cool watching it fly with the fish head but way too fast for my over 50 reflexes...
