I've visited this site for a couple of times and now I decided to register. I find this site very useful. There is so much knowledge on every field of nature photography. In Finland we also have our own Nature Photography forum, but naturephotographers.net is sooo much larger ;)

I recently got my homepage ready and I would appreciate if i could get some feedback concerning the websites and the photos. Many users here are professionals, so it would be nice for a rookie like me to get some advices and comments from more experienced photographers.

Here is the link to my website:

Antti, thanks for dropping in to say hello! Your site looks good and I envy the wonderful winter photography opportunity you have in Finland.

We hope to see some of your photos here on NPN!

I absolutely love the "cover" shot Antti. Other than that it seems very logical and well organized with some nice photos. Two little tips :

1) On my Mozilla browser it's slightly too wide for my monitor (1280x1024). The "Home" link is partly cut off on the right.

2) In the future, if you have enough images you want to show, you might want to consider grouping similar images. Or cutting back on ones that are very similar - I noticed quite a few landscapes that are sort of the same light and feel (from the same shoot possibly).

Good luck!!

Antti,

First of all, welcome to NPN! We look forward to your images as well as your contribution.

In general, I like your site. It's simple and nicely laid out. And thanks for putting in the English links too! :-)

Sometimes flash galleries can be way over done, but yours is simple and not cluttered. One thing I noticed is when clicking on a gallery, a white page opens with the circular arrow indicating loading. It's only up for a couple of seconds (I'm on dsl) and then goes to the image gallery where the thumbs continue to load. I'm not sure if you can control it, but I would change the BG color of that initial "loading" page to the same color as your site.

I would also consider adding an "about" link, bio and/or artist's statement so visitors can learn a little bit more about you as a photographer. It doesn't have to be much, but at least for me, I like to read that kind of stuff and get to know who's presenting the work.

Welcome again, and don't be shy about posting some work and commenting on others.

Thanks for comments!

"1) On my Mozilla browser it's slightly too wide for my monitor (1280x1024). The "Home" link is partly cut off on the right."

Interesting, I don't get that problem with my screen on the same resolution. I don't think i'm able to fix that. It would be nice to hear if anyone else has the same problem using that particular (or of course any other) resolution.

"2) In the future, if you have enough images you want to show, you might want to consider grouping similar images. Or cutting back on ones that are very similar - I noticed quite a few landscapes that are sort of the same light and feel (from the same shoot possibly). "

True, and I thought about this too. Actually those winter photos went to that gallery accidentally, they were supposed to be in the "latest" -file. But since they are there now, i thought i'll leave them there and use the latest-gallery for my next new photos (i hope they will come soon - the weather here doesn't really encourage you to go outside to walk around with the camera :frown: )

"I'm not sure if you can control it, but I would change the BG color of that initial "loading" page to the same color as your site."

I tried to look for that but didn't find a place where i could change that feature. I think it's just a feature of the flash, and would require a whole new flash-program to make it different. It doesn't bother me so I think i'll just let it be like that. Thanks for the comment anyway.

One last note Antti - I was using Mozilla under Linux, and I don't know that my flash install was up to date, so I wouldn't worry about it. It's a system very few people will probably ever use to see your images.
