Bonjour
I could not believe it, but yesterday we had four hours of good light in a row! Therefore, I went straight away to one of my feeding station. This feeding station is dedicated to water rail and reed bunting. As I never had photograph water rail swimming, I thought that this was a good opportunity with all the water we have now.
Once again, I wanted to photograph the water rail eyes level. So once again, I had to wear my chest wader and lay flat in the water. I had to wait a whole 10 minutes before getting the shot that I wanted. A water rail swimming....... At certain time, it was actually difficult to single out one of them. There are about nine of them coming now.
The bird depicted here must be one of the more colourful that there is there...probably a male.
The picture was taken with the EOS 1DM2N, 300MMF2.8, 1.4 CONVERTER
The weather is now back to normal....rain, and wind....So today I plan to stay in my kitchen.
Bonne journee

Hi Frederic,
I really like this. It looks sharp with a nice uncluttered background. Love the eye. Great composition too (always like seeing reflections in the water).
Your best water rail shot to date, envious!!!!
A beautiful bird,great colour!

Super image Frederic, with a nice BG and a good solid reflection
I might be tempted to remove those few blurred droplets in front of the birds head.
!0 minutes in the water - I bet you were cold

Thats an amazing picture!!
Good spot apparently. We haven't got that here in east-flanders
Is it on private property or can you just go there with your hide?
Here where I live everything is private and no one allows us to use our hide
