Crown Point Again
In the thread that Larry posted on Crown Point, Erik noted that this is a tough time of year to photograph that iconic view. As a contrapuntal photo to Larry's late shot, here is an early shot taken 1/23/05. The light was much more dramatic to the right, where the sun was rising, but it was too far south to include in the composition. (My other big gripe with this photo is the bare branches along the bottom.)

That's a beautiful sky, John - very subtle on the left side, and a nice glow throughout. I agree on the foreground, but I know that spot well, and you have to really work to get above the brush. Mother Nature is trying to close off the view! I like it as a wide shot, but the bottom seems a bit clipped. I guess I'd like more bare branches in order to have a bit more foreground on the left side.

John,
The sky is fantastic. Close to or if not the best i've seen up there. I know what you mean about those darn branches. In the spring and summer, they are full of leaves so they block out the view even more.

Beautiful image. Awesome sky and I like the way the cliff and Vista house stand out boldly silhouetted. The branches are a problem. I wonder if it's possible to get up higher with that stone wall at the viewpoint. Thanks for the tip on the sun angle. I am going to keep trying despite the angle if there is more snow in the gorge, I'll see what I can get.

John, this is pretty much a classic view and the clouds really add a nice touch.....love those reds...

I, personally do not find the trees in the bottom distracting...I feel they give the image some depth....
