Cold temperatures and snow this weekend made me go back over some of my older images yesterday. This one from last March is of a snowdrift near Lake Michigan. The brighter portion in the upper right is the top of a drift hanging over and shading the slightly darker, sculpted areas.

Beautiful abstract! My sister and I were out taking shots like this yesterday, Toni.. My river is making ice now.. Hopefully the ice bridge is making in the Straits.. I would love to get up there this year and get some shots to share.. I don't think I could replicate the awe factor though.. Winter is so fascinating with the light and shadow like in your shot..
I was out today -15 and a -30 wind chill. Great day to be out! Interesting shot. If the Packers can do it I can do it.I love nature abstracts.

Beautiful abstract Toni. Your exposure is right on.

Nice abstract, Toni. I sure wish it would snow. We've gotten a little bit here and there, but it never stays around long enough to please me. I love snow, I actually enjoy winter regardless of how cold it gets. Makes photo taking more enjoyable when you never see another person.
Wonderful image Toni - I'm still trying to get something like this I like. I have plenty of ice shots I enjoy, but the snow abstracts haven't quite worked out yet. Lovely image...

Thanks everyone! I'm out to get more of this sort this winter. Looks like winter is coming back after all with about 8 inches of snow the last few days, ice and frozen waves forming big time on Lake Michigan, and another 5-8 inches of snow predicted tonight and tomorrow.

Sure, Toni just rub it in! We got our snow last night, 1 full one inch
Enjoy it for those of us that aren't so lucky

Hate to say it, but I am enjoying it. We hadn't had much of a winter until this past weekend...Mother Nature has come at us with a vengeance, making up for those 50ºF days we had a couple weeks ago.
Robert...you're just going to have to make time for a day or weekend to the north!

Very nice, Toni. The wind-carved snow reminds me so much of the rippled sandstone exposures in the Southwest.

Actually, Toni I do have plans for a trip north in the near future, likely sometime next month. How far north remains to be decided, but I'm sure glad someone is enjoying the snow. Nothing is better than a fresh blanket of snow.
Enjoy it and don't forget to share some images with the less fortunate!

No snow here...just cold and windy. It's pretty dreary here actually...typical for this area. A cool abstract...
