If the weather stays grey, wet and miserable for much longer I'm going to go completely mad! We almost had some brightness yesterday morning so I scuttled off out with the camera.....needless to say dark clouds rolled in and started it raining as soon as the camera came out of the bag...sigh.... Anyway, I came across these bracket fungi in some very dark (wet) woods and thought there was a shot to be had.....did I think correctly?.....

Quite like this one Paul - yes, I'd say your thinking was spot on
Nice simple comp and there's some real rich colour on the birch
Might have preferred a little more OoF on the old BG, but it's a very appealing shot I think

You're braver than I am. I spent the day looking through images I’d binned a month ago.
Nice image. I like it.
This works for me. Very minimalist and the stark contrast between subject and background works particularly well.

Did you try it with greater dof? the brackets against sharp background trees would look interestnig too - a 'flat' look.

Very interesting image and proof that there is always something good to be had if you can find it. I like it a lot. Eric

Meant to comment on this before... I think this is a really original fungi shot. The colour of the birch tree is superb and the whole thing is propelled out of the image by the dark background. I've been inspired to go and find something similar!
