Really considering selling my nikon D2x and moving over to Canon, my purchase would be the 5D, anyone else made the change from Nikon to Canon and care to give me their thoughts.

Daniel, if you already have a significant investment in Nikon glass, I would take a good look at the D3 (or wait for the rumored D3x). I would guess image quality is on par (at least) with the 5D and the camera itself is beautifully built (something Nikon always did better, in my opinion).

If your lenses are easily replaceable then by all means, the 5D is an amazing camera and I love mine.

Talk with our editor-in-cheif Richard "Bern" Bernabe. He swithched from the D2x to the 5D.

I own the 5D and D200. I prefer the 5D for its smoother, noise free images. I can print 30x20 inches at good quality too with the 5D. Nikon's new SLR bodies look like very stiff competition though. Canon should be very nervous.

The 5D is getting rather long in the tooth, and a replacement is expected soon from Canon. I'd recommend you want for the new full frame cameras expected from Canon, Nikon and Sony possibly to be announced next week at PMA before you buy the older 5D. The 5D2 is supposed to have 16 megapixels, while the Nikon D3x and alpha 900 are rumored to have 24MP. Or if you want to stick with your current APS configuration and lenses, the image quality of the D300 is far better than your D2X, equalling the 5D, with a much superior AF system and speed of shooting than the 5D.

Also, Nikon's wide angle zooms are really good, especially the new full frame 14-24. In tests it blows the doors off the Canon 14mm prime and 16-35II zoom. If you like to shoot wide angles, lens quality is very important to consider.

On the other hand, the large majority of serious landscape photographers who use digital SLRs have picked the Canon 5D or 1Ds series, so if you want to be in the majority, that's where it lies.

I think it's great that all this competition is arriving in the full frame market, but it does make it harder to choose. . .

I would also wait for the 5D replacement, but for a different reason: it will drive the current 5D prices down.

The jump from 12 to 16MP is really not significant, though the new camera will probably have a couple of nice-to-have's (dust cleaning, 14-bit color etc.) If you're on a budget, staying one generation back is a great way to get good gear for good prices.

Yes Daniel, the professional photographer where I take my photos to stamp. And he is glad for the change. Well, I too was thinking about the next 5D but probably the near D3X is at the level of the best Canon camera. And my Nikkor F200mm. micro is splendid!
