We actually got our first little taste of the white stuff here in Chatham County this weekend. First time since I moved here in fall of 2005. I hope we get more soon. . .

Those little pines look uncomfortable-nice touch having the sun star.

I didn't realize you live in Chatham County, Matthew. For some reason I thought you were closer to Raleigh. I have a lot of really good friends in Chatham County.
I like the B&W rendtion and exquisite detail here. Did you use Marc's sharpening technique? For lack of better terminology, the sharpening seems to have a bit of a 'chunky' texture that I sometimes see with very detailed images sharpened using that technique. That's not intended to be nit, just an observation.
Yes I live in Chatham county a few miles south of Pittsboro. About 35 miles from Raleigh. I photograph quite a bit in Chatham county, mostly near the Haw River and Jordan Lake.
As far as sharpening, I use photoshop actions to create all my various image sizes from the original. It's canned, and uses a "one size fits most" approach. I'm not really sure what Marc's sharpening technique is, but mine pretty much consists of an image downsize (using bicubic sharper) and a very small radius USM (I forget the exact parameters). I'm sure tweaking each image for the web would give better results, but I tend to focus my efforts on shooting, gross image manipulations, and printing, and probably could spend more time fine-tuning each image for the web at each size.
Here is another image from yesterday. Sorry about the horrible compression artifacts, I wish I could post reply images from my website but NPN wouldn't allow a file bigger than this. . .

I really like the textures in this one. It's probably compression artifacts I was seeing above. I use actions for my web down-sizing, too. I have two set up: one using a method similar to yours and the other using Marc's sharpening technique. I run them both and see which one I like best. Marc's often wins, but sometimes on the detailed images it has on odd effect. There's a thread somewhere on his technique, I think in the PNWNP forum.
Most of my Chatham County friends are north of you, closer to Orange County. I've always loved the open country-side in that area.

It looks like you got a lot more snow in Chatham than we did here in SW Raleigh. It snowed hard a most of the day but stayed just a degree over freezing and kept it off the ground. Nice shots too! I like the first one best but both have a nice sketched effect.
